New Zealand: Bike Trails of the South

Neuseeland: Radwege des Südens.
Our start in the 41st country of the tour was truly phenomenal! Of the 435 kilometers we covered in the first 9 days in New Zealand, 69% were on bike paths and 26% on roads with virtually no traffic. And WHAT bike paths they were! Some of the coolest we’ve ever ridden. We started with the Queenstown Trails, followed later by the Otago Central Rail Trail and the famous Alps2Ocean Trail. But the most beautiful, pleasant, and well-designed bike path, which was clearly built with great care and expense, was the Lake Dunstan Trail, which also stands out because it is covered with very smooth gravel. The bike paths lead through beautiful alpine mountain landscapes, along turquoise clear lakes and rivers, and through endless seas of flowers (most of which, unfortunately, are invasive species). And to top it all off, several nice Warmshowers hosts and their friends sweetened our first days in the new country with their hospitality and interesting stories!
