Japan im Winter: Land der früh untergehenden Sonne.
We land in Tokyo-Narita at 6 °C and rain, but after riding a kilometer to the hotel sponsored by Air New Zealand, we have what’s perhaps the best start to a new country we’ve ever had. Not only because of the hotel and the dinner and breakfast buffet, but also because of the shining sun on the next morning! A cold, fresh wind on our faces, but blue skies and warm rays of sunshine on our backs is a long-forgotten experience for us, almost bringing tears of joy to our eyes. After four days in Tokyo, we set off for what is perhaps the most beautiful mountain in the world and admire its conical shape with its snow-covered peak from all sides. We then follow the Pacific coast, where we can ride on bike paths for about half of the route, which are in stark contrast to the bike paths in New Zealand. If you like brutalism, Japan has the matching bike paths!
