Armenia, 24th country of the tour and the last new country for this year. Highlight of the first days is Mount Aragats, with 4090 m the highest mountain in Armenia and the Lesser Caucasus. We cycle up to an altitude of 3200 meters (this is then by far the highest point of the tour, significantly higher than we have cycled in the Greater Caucasus and the Alps) and from there we hike to the summit. Especially the last 120 meters over the very jagged ridge of loose rocks was quite a challenge. Afterwards we leave the exposition and go back to civilization: Armenia’s capital Yerevan consists to a good part of publicly exhibited art and milkshake stores. And of course, a visit to the genocide memorial is a must as well.
