Days 1045–1068Langkawi – Kuala Lumpur

Background to Malaysia

Malaysia: Diversity in the Streets – And on the Menus!

Published on 04.06.2025, 18:50 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

This report’s podcast is only available in german: Malaysia: Vielfalt in den Straßen – und auf den Speisekarten!.

Our crossing of Malaysia does not start ideally with two crashes on Langkawi and a few rainy, hot and humid nights in the tent. After two days of cycling on the mainland, we take another ferry to an island: Penang. In the island’s capital George Town, we experience the diversity that Malaysia has to offer for the first time: Alongside the Malays, Chinese and Indians and all their influences are an integral part of the everyday street life. And the British have not failed to leave their mark either. This not only makes for varied architecture in the cities, but also, to our particular delight, for variety on the menus. The fauna also continues to show its most exciting side: we observe rhinoceros hornbills, otters and mudskippers. For our last major stop on the way to the capital Kuala Lumpur, we cycle up higher than we have for six months: the Cameron Highlands entice us with their promise of a much milder climate.

We always appreciate your critisism, praise and other suggestions or hints and invite you to send us them via hi@zweiradlertouren.de!

We are going to get on our bicycles once again and further collect kilometers :-)

See you again soon!
