Bukhara and Samarkand: „Capitals“ of the Silk Road

Published on 23.04.2024, 17:02 in Samarkand, Uzbekistan

This report’s podcast is only available in german: Bukhara und Samarkand: „Hauptstädte“ der Seidenstraße.

Behind Khiva, only the Kyzylkum Desert separates us from the main route of the Silk Road. And based on our experiences in Saudi Arabia’s Rub al-Khali and the Kazakh Ustyurt desert, the Kyzylkum is pretty easy-peasy. We reach Bukhara, which according to UNESCO is the most untouched and complete example of a medieval city in Central Asia, and finally Samarkand, whose madrasas clearly outshine their competititors from Bukhara and Khiva. In between, we see real mountains again for the first time in 1.5 months, look out for petroglyphs that are thousands of years old and pitch our tent in the friendly neighborhood of a tortoise family.

We always appreciate your critisism, praise and other suggestions or hints and invite you to send us them via hi@zweiradlertouren.de!

We are going to get on our bicycles once again and further collect kilometers :-)

See you again soon!
